SAFCell, Inc. was selected for a $3.7 million Advanced Research Projects Agency – Energy (ARPA-E) award to develop an intermediate temperature fuel cell for low-cost distributed power generation. SAFCell, a Caltech start-up fuel cell company, was one of 13 projects funded under ARPA-E’s $33 million Reliable Electricity Based on Electrochemical Systems (REBELS) program.
SAFCell Part of New Lightweight Materials Innovation Consortium

SAFCell to Generate Power for Caltech Solar Toilet
The California Institute of Technology (Caltech) will incorporate a fuel cell stack made by SAFCell, Inc. (Pasadena, CA) into its award-winning solar toilet to enhance the lavatory’s energy-efficiency.
The solar-powered prototype toilet, winner of the Reinventing the Toilet Challenge issued by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in August of 2012, uses a chlorine reactor to rapidly disinfect wastewater.
SAFCell wins Patrick Soon-Shiong Innovation Award
SAFCell, Inc., a Caltech start-up fuel cell company based in Pasadena, CA, received the Los Angeles Business Journal's 2013 Patrick Soon-Shiong Innovation Award. SAFCell was one of five companies in the Los Angeles area to be recognized on November 14 with the coveted award for its leadership in technology innovation and for fostering the "economic competitiveness of the region."
